The Delaware Panthers Basketball Club, Inc. began in December of 2005 supporting players ranging in age 8 to 17 (boys/girls) in New Castle County, DE. The founder Ron Martin’s main purpose is to instruct, develop and prepare our children for real life challenges after basketball through academic and educational experiences as well as competitive basketball. It has been long since recognized that the success of any team is relative to the collective improvement of the intellectual and technical skills of each player. This is why in our practices we stress we are there to develop productive respectable people first and basketball players second.
From a basketball perspective the best way to develop the skill level of each player is by practicing with a 1 to 1 ratio of balls and players. With this in mind, our development sessions are designed to help each player become a fundamentally sound basketball player. The success that follows fosters a greater desire to play and cultivates a further commitment to the game.
We also administer simple game plays and plans in our practice sessions. This provides players with more opportunity to experience game situations as well as display their individual skills and abilities. Games from 1 on 1 to 5 on 5 teach important elements that occur during games, thereby providing players more opportunities for physical as well as intellectual development.
Finally, the use of progressive practicing is the key to connecting one practice session to the next. This time must not only be used to build skills/abilities but to also learn how to move them to game situations. In this manner our players are provided the best opportunity to understand what they are doing (both correct & incorrect) and how to apply it during play.
